From the start Control Risks has grown by identifying new or potential business needs.
In the mid-1970s international business executives had become the target of kidnappers in parts of South America. The insurance industry sought more professional advisers to minimise their exposure and Control Risks was born. As a subsidiary of insurance broker, Hogg Robinson, Control Risks' first crisis management and incident response specialists were soon joined by political and security risk analysts offering expert knowledge on 40 countries. Offices opened in London and Washington DC.
A management buy-out brought total independence. At the same time, security management provided essential reassurance to business worldwide. Offices opened in Australia, Colombia, Germany, the Netherlands and the Philippines.
Multinationals moving into new territories resulted in business intelligence and investigation becoming a growth area with our specialists tasked to undertake due dilligence on clients' potential business partners. With the emergence of electronic crime, information security specialists began providing security audits, leak investigations and solutions. Worldwide mobile communication and news gathering made possible the development of a 24-hour travel and personal security service providing expert advice to business people whatever their circumstances. Offices opened in Singapore, Mexico, Brazil, Russia, Los Angeles and New York.
Pre-employment screening increased our business intelligence capacity. The acquisition of a specialist forensics capability established the largest independent technical forensic laboratory offering audio, visual and computer analysis. We expanded our global presence to 27 offices with new premises opening in China, India and Dubai.
