Hair analysis

While the uncovering of hair evidence is not as strong as the finding of DNA or fingerprints at a crime scene, it can produce corroborative evidence which needs to be thoroughly checked.

Both human and animal hairs can be transferred during physical contact, therefore their presence can associate a suspect to a victim or a suspect/victim to a crime scene. For this reason the types of hair recovered, the condition and number of hairs found, all impact on their value as evidence and as such the conclusions drawn need to be thoroughly tested.

Control Risks Forensics scientists are on hand to:

  • Provide initial advice and suggest next steps
  • Undertake microscopic examinations and comparisons of hairs
  • Comment upon artificial treatments on hair samples
  • Undertake independent DNA analysis of hair samples
  • Independently review evidence produced
  • Undertake drugs in hair testing
